Mercedes window switch: switch and power window control by OEM reference

On a Mercedes, the window switch is often integrated into a chrome panel that also houses the mirrors and central locking: one faulty button and the entire block must be replaced. This selection covers front and rear window switches, passenger window controls, as well as start, seat, trunk and air conditioning buttons, OEM-referenced by chassis code, from the A-Class W169 to the W222.

Mercedes chassis codes covered

  • A-Class W169 and W176: compact panels, single passenger control and central locking push buttons.
  • C-Class W204 and W205: four-way chrome driver blocks, folding mirror buttons and seat memory buttons.
  • E-Class W212 and W213: impulse-function controls on all four windows, with child safety.
  • S-Class W222 and GLK: high-end panels with a brushed aluminum finish, sunblind and electric tailgate controls.

All interior control families

The Mercedes signature relies heavily on its controls: a worn contactor is immediately noticeable in a well-finished interior.

  • Driver and passenger windows: multi-button panel on the driver's side, single controls on the passenger side and in the rear.
  • Keyless start: the car start button Keyless-Go and its illuminated surround, on equipped models.
  • Automatic engine cut-off: the ECO start stop button on the console, whose icon fades over the years.
  • Door locking: central locking push button, generally placed in the center of the dashboard.
  • Trunk and tailgate: opening contactor, electric tailgate control and assisted closing push button.
  • Air conditioning: temperature dials, defrost buttons, air recirculation and heated or ventilated seats.
  • Seat adjustment: the famous seat-shaped controls on the door trim, plus the position memory buttons.
  • Multimedia and lighting: steering wheel buttons, central control dial, rotary headlight switch and dimmer.

Switch, window motor or fuse: the correct diagnosis

A stationary window does not automatically indicate the contactor. A two-minute test avoids buying a part unnecessarily.

  • It's the switch: the window moves from the driver's panel but remains inert from its own door. Internal contacts are oxidized or dirty.
  • It's the motor: no control works anymore, the window goes down on its own or unevenly, and the mechanism forces in the door.
  • It's the fuse: two or more windows die on the same day. Check the fuse box before ordering.
  • It's the wiring harness: intermittent operation depending on the position of the door: the strands of the flexible cable guide are worn.

Why replace rather than endure

Peeling chrome on a panel, a seat button whose marking has disappeared, a button that only responds on the third press: in a Mercedes interior, these details ruin an otherwise intact impression of quality. A part with the correct reference, a door trim panel unclipped, and the standing returns fully.

Frequently asked questions

Does a new Mercedes panel need to be coded? No in the vast majority of cases: the contactor remains a passive electrical contact. On models with automatic function, a manual reset with the window at the top stop is generally sufficient.

Where can I find the original reference? It is on the back of the panel, often preceded by the letter A. Unclip the block with a thin plastic tool, note the code, then compare it before ordering.

Will a W204 panel fit a W205? No: the design, the connector, and the number of pins differ from one generation to the next. Always select the part for the exact chassis code.
