Jeep Side Steps: Get In Without Getting Dirty
On a lifted 4x4, the side step is no gimmick. It serves three purposes: for getting in effortlessly, for installing a child in a car seat, and for reaching the roof rack without climbing on the tire. It also protects the lower bodywork from gravel and mud thrown up by the front wheels, an area that rusts quickly on older Jeeps.
The 2018-2025 Wrangler JL is covered in two configurations: the shorter 2-door version, and the 4-door (JLU) version, with aluminum references and reinforced side models. On a Wrangler, the side step has an additional constraint: it must remain compatible with the vehicle's underbody clearance if you go off the pavement.
The Grand Cherokee is the best-served model in the collection: side steps for the WK2 2011-2021 in several finishes, and aluminum side steps for the 2022-2025 generation. On these large SUVs, the step height alone justifies the investment, especially with elderly passengers.
On the compact side, the 2015-2023 Renegade has aluminum side steps and side versions, and the 2014-2023 Cherokee KL has its own reference. On these vehicles, the side step plays as much an aesthetic role as a practical one: it visually widens the lower bodywork and breaks the height of the door.
Our side steps are made of aluminum with non-slip inserts, with hardware and brackets included in the kit. Installation is done on the original mounting points provided by the manufacturer under the lower bodywork: no drilling in the vast majority of cases. Plan for two people to position the bar, a jack or jack stands, and a torque wrench.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need to drill the bodywork? No in the vast majority of cases: Jeeps have mounting points under the lower bodywork, sometimes sealed by a plastic cap that needs to be removed. The brackets in the kit bolt directly to them.
Does a side step cause a problem at the technical inspection? A properly secured side step, without protruding edges and that does not exceed the overall width of the vehicle, does not pose a problem. The subject of width is detailed in our guide on width and legality.
How long for installation? Allow one hour to an hour and a half for both sides, with two people. The most delicate operation is positioning the bar while keeping the three brackets aligned: tighten everything by hand before blocking with torque.
