BMW sport pedal box: stainless steel pedals, aluminium and footrest
A BMW sport pedal box is one of the few interior modifications that you see on every journey and feel under your foot. This collection brings together stainless steel pedal, aluminium pedal and footrest kits designed for the 1 Series E87, F20 and F40, in both manual and automatic versions. The surfaces are studded with non-slip rubber nubs.
Why choose a sport pedal box over the original pedals?
- Brushed stainless steel or anodised aluminium: two materials that do not rust and retain their shine despite wet soles and road salt.
- Rubber non-slip nubs set into the surface: the foot stays in place under heavy braking, even with dress shoes.
- Installation without special tools: clips over the original pedal or screws provided depending on the reference, in ten to twenty minutes.
- Controlled thickness so as not to change the pedal travel or the position of the foot relative to the footrest.
No more deformed original rubber
After a few tens of thousands of kilometres, the rubber on the original pedals becomes shiny, the non-slip ridges wear away, and the foot slips when you get back in soaked by the rain. A sport pedal box restores a new, firm and textured surface, and gives the interior that metallic reflection that can only be found from the factory on high-end trims. It is a modest budget for an immediate impression of a well-maintained car every time you get on board.
- An interior that looks new without changing the seats or the steering wheel.
- A better grip of the foot during dynamic driving and in wet weather.
- A resale argument: worn pedals are one of the first details a buyer notices.
Stainless steel, aluminium or carbon: which material for your BMW?
The three families are fitted in the same way, but they do not behave the same over time.
- Brushed stainless steel: the safe bet. Resistant to corrosion, it withstands road salt and studded soles, and its matte grain does not show visible scratches.
- Anodised aluminium: lighter and available in coloured finishes (black, red, silver). It retains an "original sport part" look better, but the anodisation can be marked by very abrasive shoes.
- Carbon look: the most discreet in an interior already equipped with carbon inserts. Reserved for cars that do not drive daily in work boots.
Compatibility: BMW manual and automatic gearboxes
The collection notably covers the 1 Series E87, F20 and F40, 2 Series F22, 3 Series E46, E90, F30 and G20, 4 Series F32, 5 Series F10, G30 and G31, 6 Series and 7 Series F01, X3, X5 E70/F15/G05 and X6. Pay attention to the number of pedals: a manual gearbox kit includes accelerator, brake and clutch, an automatic gearbox kit includes an accelerator and a wide brake.
The "clip" kits slide over the original pedal and are locked by side screws; the "screw-in" kits require drilling the metal pedal plate. Each product sheet indicates the type of fixation, the number of parts and the presence or absence of the footrest.
Frequently asked questions
Are sport pedals really non-slip? Yes, provided you choose a model with through-mounted rubber nubs and not a simple smooth metal cover. The nubs protrude from the stainless steel surface and bite into the sole, even when wet.
Do you need to drill to install a sport pedal box? Not necessarily. The clip kits are installed without drilling, in ten to twenty minutes, with the provided side tightening screws. Only some full plate kits require drilling.
Does a sport pedal box pass the technical inspection? Yes, as long as the pedal remains securely fixed, does not interfere with the travel and does not have sharp edges. A poorly tightened kit that moves under the foot is, however, a real danger: check the tightening after a few hundred kilometres.
What is the difference between a manual gearbox kit and an automatic gearbox kit? The automatic kit does not have a clutch pedal and offers a wider brake, shaped like the brake of automatic cars. A manual kit fitted on an automatic gearbox will leave an unused pedal in the box.
