Lexus LED headlights: modernise the IS's look
The Lexus IS of the XE20 generation has aged well from the side, but much less so from the front: the bulb-based front light units, with their inner chrome strip, immediately date the car. A set of Lexus LED headlights revives this look with a continuous daytime running light signature, a whiter beam, and a clarity that the original polycarbonate lost long ago.
Three references cover the 2006-2013 period for the IS 250, IS 350, IS 220d and IS F. The so-called dynamic version features a sweeping indicator: the arrow spreads outwards instead of flashing as a whole, an effect that did not exist on any Lexus of this era and brings the car closer to modern models.
Another reference focuses on the DRL lights: the light strip forms a continuous eyebrow above the lens, whereas the original only had occasional parking lights. It is the detail that changes the perception from the front the most, by day and by night.
These are complete units, not bulb kits to be inserted into a reflector designed for a filament. The difference is significant: a projector designed for LED controls the beam cut-off, whereas an LED bulb in a halogen lens dazzles other road users and fails the beam adjustment at the vehicle inspection.
Installation requires removing the front bumper on this generation: allow half a day for the pair, and plan for a beam height adjustment after fitting. It is this adjustment, more than the LED itself, that determines whether the result will be compliant.
