Privacy car window tint roll: 7 shades and a large 6-meter format
This car window tint roll is available in seven shades, from light 70% to solid black 1%, and in two lengths: 50 x 300 cm for a city car, 50 x 600 cm for an SUV, a minivan, or for tinting two cars. Its privacy effect works like a one-way mirror: you can see out, but no one can see in.
What this film brings to your car
- One-way privacy: from the outside, the interior remains in the shadows.
- UV protection: seats, plastics, and passengers are protected from the sun.
- Heat insulation: the film reflects some of the heat, so the interior heats up less.
- Less glare for a more relaxing drive.
- Shatter retention: in the event of breakage, the film holds back some of the glass.
The seven shades of film for rear windows
The percentage indicates the amount of light that passes through the film. The 70% and 50% remain light and are mainly used as heat-reduction film. The 35% and 25% provide an elegant smoked tint. The 15% and 5% offer the black-tinted window effect found on SUVs. The 1% is an almost opaque black, reserved for quarter windows or leisure vehicles. For a minivan or seven-seater SUV, the 6-meter format avoids seams.
What the regulations say
In France, the windshield and front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to pass through: darker film is prohibited on them and may result in a fine and the vehicle being impounded. The rear windows and rear windscreen, however, can receive dark film, provided the car has two exterior rearview mirrors. The shades from 50% to 1% can therefore only be installed at the rear.
Applying your tint film without bubbles
Clean the inside of the window and degrease it. Cut the film with a margin of a few centimeters, remove the protective paper, wet the window and the adhesive with soapy water, apply the film, then squeegee the water out from the center to the edges. Trim flush with the seal and let it dry for several days before rolling down the window. For the rear windscreen, a hairdryer helps it conform to the curve.
Frequently asked questions
What is the darkest film allowed at the rear?
At the rear, all shades are permitted if the car has two exterior rearview mirrors, down to 1%.
Should I get 3 or 6 meters?
3 meters are generally sufficient for the rear windows and windscreen of a city car; 6 meters for a large SUV, a minivan, or two vehicles.
Does the film interfere with night vision?
Very dark shades reduce visibility when reversing at night; a rearview camera compensates very well.
How do you remove a tint film?
Heat it with a hairdryer, peel it off slowly, then clean off the adhesive residue.
