Do you need to disassemble the console to install a carbon trim? Not for adhesive inserts and surrounds, which are installed on the surface after degreasing. Full frames require unclipping the original insert with a plastic spatula, without removing the console.
What is the difference between real carbon and replica on a console? Real carbon shows a weave that follows the curvature of the part and a fibrous edge; the replica is a film with a regular pattern under varnish. On a console protected from the sun, the replica holds up very well.
Does the part resist spilled drinks? The finishing varnish is waterproof: a liquid wiped quickly leaves no trace. However, avoid letting a sugary drink sit on the joint between the trim and the console.
