Land Rover Side Steps: Effortlessly Enter a Large SUV
A Range Rover Sport has a sill height that you only truly appreciate when installing a child in a car seat or helping an elderly passenger get in. The side step solves this problem by adding an intermediate step, while also protecting the lower bodywork from gravel and road salt thrown up by the front wheels.
The Range Rover Sport L494 (2014-2022) is covered by two references of aluminium side steps. On this model, the bar follows the line of the lower bodywork and aligns with the wheel arches, avoiding the mismatched look of overly straight universal kits.
The Discovery Sport L550 (2015-2025) has its own reference of side steps. On this family SUV, the step is particularly useful at the rear, where children get in on their own and constantly scuff the lower bodywork with their shoes.
Our side steps are made of aluminium with non-slip inserts along their entire length. Aluminium is the right material for this area: it does not rust when exposed to salt, unlike painted steel, which always ends up bubbling around the mounting points after two or three winters.
Installation is done on the original mounting points provided by Land Rover under the lower bodywork, often covered by a plastic cover that needs to be unclipped: no drilling required. Plan for two people, a jack or jack stands to work comfortably, hand-tightening on all brackets, then torquing them down once the alignment has been checked.

Frequently asked questions
Do you need to drill into the bodywork? No: the Range Rover Sport and Discovery Sport have mounting points under the lower bodywork, sometimes hidden by a plastic cover. The kit's brackets bolt directly to them.
Do the side steps interfere with off-roading? A fixed bar slightly reduces the approach angle. For road and track use, the impact is nil; for severe off-roading, it is a factor to consider.
