HID xenon bulbs and slim ballasts: the complete conversion kit for your car

Switching from halogen to xenon remains the most dramatic transformation you can give your car's lighting. This kit brings together two HID xenon bulbs, two slim block ballasts and the wiring harnesses: everything you need to replace an original set and get a wide, dense and perfectly white beam. Where halogen lights up, the 12V HID xenon kit reveals the road.

35 W or 55 W: which xenon power to choose for your car?

35 W corresponds to the power of the manufacturer's original xenon installations: it is the choice of a faithful replacement, with controlled consumption and a comfortable lifespan. 55 W significantly increases the flux and extends the range, at the cost of a greater warm-up and increased strain on the circuit. For intensive nighttime use on country roads, the 55 W xenon version is justified; for a clean and discreet conversion, 35 W is more than enough.

The difference with the old setup is obvious from the first night: the roadsides emerge from the shadows, the cut-off becomes sharp, and the beam reaches much further than with an original halogen bulb. The pure white of xenon also improves the readability of signs and road markings.

The slim block ballast, the kit's centerpiece

A xenon is nothing without its ballast: it is what raises the voltage to start the electric arc, then regulates it throughout the lighting time. The slim format offered here fits in the reduced spaces of modern headlight units, where the old thick ballasts did not fit. Its metal housing dissipates heat and protects the electronics from the humidity of the engine compartment.

The ignition lead and the high-voltage cable are provided at full length, with waterproof keyed connectors. The quality of a slim xenon ballast is judged by the stability of the arc: a good ballast avoids flickering on cold start and color drift after a few months.

  • Complete xenon kit for two headlights — two bulbs, two slim ballasts and the associated harnesses
  • H1, H3, H7, 9005 HB3, 9012 HIR2 and H4 bases — coverage of the most common car setups
  • Two powers: 35 W or 55 W — from faithful replacement to light flux increase
  • Slim block ballast — fits behind the headlight even when space is limited
  • Regulated ignition — progressive light build-up, without flickering on cold start
  • Waterproof keyed connectors — error-free polarity connection

Installing this HID xenon kit on your vehicle

Disconnect the battery, remove the back cover of the headlight, remove the original bulb without touching the glass tube with bare hands, then install the xenon bulb in its housing. Fix the ballast to a ventilated metal point, away from the hottest areas, and connect the harness to the original connector. The installation of a xenon kit takes about an hour for both sides. On some newer vehicles, an additional anti-error module may be necessary depending on the version: check before installation. A beam height adjustment is essential after installation, so as not to dazzle other road users.

Can you install an HID xenon on any headlight?

Technically, the base determines mechanical compatibility, and the available space determines actual feasibility. But the underlying question is regulatory: the xenon conversion of a headlight designed for halogen is generally not approved for use on public roads, for lack of an optical washer and an automatic leveling corrector. This xenon conversion kit is therefore intended for use on a track, for display, or on private property. Find out about the regulations in force in your area before any use in traffic: we prefer to tell you clearly.

Fitting steps

  1. Check the bulb base

Identify the base of your vehicle's original bulbs and let the headlights cool down. Check the package contents: 2 xenon bulbs, 2 slim ballasts, Harnesses. Before fitting, check that the version received (9012 / HIR2, H1, H3) is the one you ordered.

  2. Remove the original bulb

Open the rear cap of the headlight, unplug the bulb, then remove it.

  3. Fit the new bulbs

Insert the new bulb the same way round as the old one, lock it, then reconnect.

  4. Plug in the connector

Plug the bulbs into your vehicle's original connector. No wires need to be cut.

  5. Test and adjust

Test the lighting and have the headlight adjustment checked.

  • Do not touch the glass or LEDs with your fingers.
  • Check that the bulb is approved for road use in your country.
