Check your roof dimensions before installing these crossbars

This is the one step you must not skip, and it takes two minutes with a tape measure. The gutter distance must be between 110 and 114 cm, and the distance between window frames between 124 and 134 cm. Outside these ranges, the kit will not fit correctly. This set of bars is designed for 4- or 5-door cars; 3-door models, vans, and large 4x4s are excluded. Professional installation is still recommended, and tightening after the first few kilometres is essential in all cases.

Roof bars without rails: are they really safe?

Yes, on two conditions. The first is the dimensions: an incorrectly sized universal roof bar will not have a firm support and will flex. The second is the load: the bars' capacity (75 kg here) does not replace the maximum roof payload set by the manufacturer, indicated in your car's manual. Always use the lower of the two.
