BMW lighting button: a headlight switch that responds with a quarter turn
This BMW lighting button replaces the central headlight switch in 1 Series, 3 Series and X1 models produced between 2008 and 2015. On E82, E88, E90, E91 and E84 chassis, this control unit is one of the most heavily used elements on the dashboard: height adjustment dial gone rogue, fog light button that no longer lights up, dead backlighting. The module adopts the shape, surface texture and pictograms of the original control, including the notched dial. Once inserted into its housing to the left of the driver's position, it sits perfectly flush with the rest of the dashboard: no play, no difference in shade with the neighboring controls of an E90 3 Series or an E84 X1.
Technology, quality & finish
The contacts are made of copper alloy to limit oxidation at the source of random turn-on issues, and the backlighting is provided by orange LEDs calibrated to the BMW ambient shade. The housing is molded from reinforced ABS, resistant to the heat built up behind the windshield as well as repeated pressure.
Installation, compatibility & durability
Replacement takes just a few minutes: the old unit is removed by pulling firmly after unclipping, the wiring harness is disconnected then plugged into the new one. No coding is required in most cases.
