Mini 4K dashcam: an onboard camera no one notices, not even you
The best driving camera is the one you forget about. This model is all about that: a discreet mini dashcam housing that slips behind the rearview mirror, doesn't block any of the windshield, and doesn't catch the eye of a malicious passerby. Behind this understated design is a 4K onboard camera with HDR, 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and a supercapacitor instead of a lithium battery. You wanted to record without turning your car into a surveillance post? That's exactly the idea.
4K or 2K: two resolutions, one housing
You choose the version that suits you. In 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160, license plates and signs remain legible when zoomed in, even several lanes away. In 2K 2560 x 1440, the image remains highly detailed while creating smaller files, so you can store more hours on the same card. In both cases, the 170° wide-angle lens covers about three lanes with minimal distortion at the edges.
Supercapacitor and F2.0: the technology that sets this driving camera apart
Two technical choices deserve special mention. First, the power supply: the dashcam runs on a supercapacitor, without a lithium-ion battery. This means it handles the heat of a windshield in summer better (rated operating range from -20°C to 65°C, storage from -30°C to 80°C), has a longer lifespan, and eliminates the risk of swelling. Next, the optics: an F2.0 aperture combined with low-light optimization for night vision that truly captures dark scenes instead of drowning them in grain. h.265 codec, 30 frames per second, MP4 files.
- 5 GHz Wi-Fi to smartphone — view and download without removing the memory card
- Parking mode with timelapse — monitoring while parked, automatic locking in the event of an impact
- Battery voltage protection — the dashcam shuts down before draining the vehicle's battery
- G-sensor and loop recording — the impact sequence is protected from being overwritten
- microSD card up to 256 GB — Class 10 required, 32, 64, or 128 GB offered in bundles
- USB-C power supply — standard cables, no proprietary connectors
Installing the mini dashcam: five minutes, invisible cable
The housing sticks to the back of the rearview mirror, the USB-C cable slips into the windshield seal, then runs down the pillar to the cigarette lighter. For 24-hour parking surveillance, choose a variant with a wiring kit: it connects to the fuse box and frees up the cigarette lighter socket. Without this kit, recording stops when the ignition is turned off. The Viidure and Framefox apps allow you to control it from iOS or Android.
A dashcam without a screen—is it really practical?
It's a deliberate compromise. No screen means nothing to illuminate the interior at night and a much smaller housing; in return, framing and playback are done through the app. In practice, you set the angle once during installation and only open the app when really needed. For many drivers, a screenless dashcam is the best choice: it goes unnoticed while working constantly.
