LAUNCH Creader CR300 OBD2 code reader: engine diagnostics and battery voltage in the palm of your hand
The LAUNCH Creader CR300 OBD2 code reader is the most direct way to find out why your check engine light came on. Plugged into the diagnostic port, it displays the fault code, its meaning, and the battery voltage, with no app or subscription required. It is a compact DIY car diagnostic tool, designed for quick checks at home, in the parking lot, or before buying a used car.
The Creader CR300's comprehensive OBD2 functions
The CR300 covers all generic OBD2 diagnostic modes, including those related to the engine and emissions control:
- Read and clear fault codes, with the code definition displayed on the screen thanks to the built-in DTC search.
- Real-time data: monitor RPM, temperature, sensors, and engine load while the engine is running.
- Freeze frame: a snapshot of the engine parameters at the moment the fault occurred.
- I/M readiness test: check the status of the emissions monitors before an MOT test.
- Oxygen sensor test, onboard monitors (mode 6), and EVAP system test, depending on the vehicle.
- Battery voltage display and reading of vehicle information (VIN) when transmitted.
The LAUNCH CR300, an OBD2 reader designed to be simple
Color screen, large red buttons, and clear menu: the fault code reader is easy to use without the manual. The interface is available in 9 languages, including French. It is powered directly through the OBD2 port as soon as the ignition is turned on: no batteries to change, no phone to pair. The integrated cable stores with the device in the glove box or toolbox.
Reading the voltage is a real everyday plus: a weak battery often causes cascading faults and phantom warning lights. At a glance, you can tell if the problem is with the engine or simply an aging battery.
Creader CR300 OBD2 and EOBD compatibility
The CR300 reads 12 V vehicles with a 16-pin OBD2 port and standardized protocols (CAN, ISO, KWP, J1850). LAUNCH states support for American cars since 1996, European cars since 2000, and Asian cars since 2008. For a European car, the general rule is gasoline since 2001 and diesel since 2004: check for the presence of the port and the year of your vehicle.
It is an engine OBD2 reader: it does not read ABS, airbags, or the transmission, and does not offer maintenance resets. This is intentional: the tool remains simple, fast, and affordable for the most common use: understanding a check engine light.
Read a code with the CR300 in under two minutes
Plug the cable into the diagnostic port, turn on the ignition, then choose "Diagnostics" and "Read Codes". The code and its definition appear; once the repair is done, use Clear Codes to turn off the warning light. If the light comes back on, the fault is still there: that is also valuable information.
Your questions about the LAUNCH Creader CR300 code reader
Which OBD2 reader to choose to get started?
A standalone reader like the CR300: it works without a phone, in French, and covers all the useful OBD2 functions for understanding a check engine light.
Is the CR300 compatible with my diesel car?
Yes, if it has an EOBD-compatible OBD2 port, which is generally the case for European diesels since 2004.
Is a subscription required?
No. The device works right out of the box, with no account or subscription.
Does the CR300 test the battery?
It displays the battery voltage through the OBD2 port. To measure the state of health or cranking current, a dedicated battery tester is more accurate.
