Golf 7 car sun visor — part numbers 5GG857551 and 5GG857552

This Golf 7 car sun visor is the original interior visor panel for the MK7 and MK7 phase 2, from 2013 to 2021, under part numbers 5GG857551 (left) and 5GG857552 (right). It is the factory-installed piece under the roof lining, with its makeup mirror — nothing to do with a folding screen placed behind the windshield.

The typical MK7 symptom

On the Golf 7, the complaint always comes back to the same thing: the telescopic arm and the pivot lose their friction, and the visor no longer stays raised. It drops on its own, hits the rearview mirror, and then you end up wedging it. Second common case: the courtesy mirror cover that no longer slides or whose hinge has cracked. A broken car sun visor is replaced as a single piece, without going through the dealership.

Two shades matched to VW interiors

Titanium black for Golfs with a dark interior and sporty finishes, pearl gray for light headliners: these are the two factory-installed colors. Always compare it to your roof lining, the difference is obvious from the first trip. The pair version, left and right together, guarantees a strictly identical shade on both sides.

Identify its part number then install

The number 5GG 857 551 or 5GG 857 552 is engraved on the back of the visor, visible as soon as you fold it down completely. Note it before ordering to confirm the side. Installation requires unclipping the support cover, removing the Torx screws, disconnecting the lighting connector if your trim has one, then replacing it identically. About fifteen minutes per side.

Take the exact part number of your Golf 7 and get a visor that stays up.

Fitting steps

  1. Identify the side

Identify the side (driver or passenger) of the sun visor of your Volkswagen Golf MK7 (2013-2021). Compare with the original part number 5GG857551 / 5GG857552.

  2. Remove the old sun visor

Unclip the cover, unscrew the mount and unplug the mirror light if there is one.

  3. Fit the sun visor

Fit the sun visor in place of the original part, on the same mounts. No modification is needed.

  4. Test the sun visor

Fold down the sun visor, swing it towards the window and test the mirror and its light.

  • Do not overtighten: the headliner is fragile.
