Volkswagen Golf 5, 6 and 7 reading light: replace the broken module without changing the entire headliner

The ground contact is made of brass and the board features the original positioning markers, which prevents the poor contact that causes the light to flicker with every bump.
Why the original light stays on or refuses to turn off
This is the most common symptom on these models, and it almost always comes from the same place: the switching tab that loses its elasticity with thermal cycles. The result is well known to all owners — a reading light that stays on and a dead battery after two days of parking. Clip the new module into the Golf headliner
Insert a plastic spatula into the side slot of the existing module, gently pry it loose, disconnect the connector then position the new one in the same direction until it clicks. This car roof light installation takes less than five minutes and requires no special tools. However, please note: the shape of the housing and the type of connector differ depending on the version and year — compare the removed part to the photo before installation.
Can an LED bulb be fitted instead?
Yes, the module accepts LED wedge bulbs of the same format, and many owners take advantage of this to switch to white LED interior lighting. Just keep in mind that the diodes have a polarity: if the light stays off on the first try, turn the wedge bulb around in its contacts. The included filament bulb, however, works in both directions.
