5/8-inch towbar pin lock: your ball mount stays where you left it

A standard towbar pin can be removed in three seconds, without tools, by anyone. That's convenient for you, and just as convenient for anyone who spots your ball mount in a parking lot. This towbar pin lock replaces the original pin with a key-locked shaft. The principle is simple, the effect immediate: the removable ball mount, cargo carrier, or bike rack can no longer be removed from the receiver without your permission.

A straight 5/8-inch shaft that fits all common receivers

The size of this 5/8 towbar pin is the industry standard: 5/8 of an inch, or 16 mm, the standard diameter for square towbar receiver holes. The manufacturer states compatibility with all common towbar receivers, so there's no need to identify a specific part number. Its straight shape, rather than bent, makes insertion easier even when the receiver is recessed under a deep bumper—a real convenience when working on your knees in a parking lot.

Aluminum alloy and dust cover: what protects the lock cylinder

The body is made of aluminum alloy, with an overall length of approximately 19.5 cm, a width of 3 cm, and a weight of 500 g. The detail that matters is on the head: a dust- and weather-resistant cover protects the key slot. This is what makes the difference between a lock that is still operable after two winters and a cylinder seized by salt and sand. The covered slot prevents moisture and particles from entering the locking mechanism, where they would do the most damage. Two keys are included, allowing you to give one to a loved one or keep one at home.

  • Towbar pin lock — replaces the free pin with a key-locked shaft
  • 5/8-inch diameter (16 mm) — the standard size for square towbar receivers
  • Dust- and weather-resistant cover — the cylinder remains operable season after season
  • Straight design — easy insertion even on an inaccessible receiver
  • 2 keys included — a spare in advance, without an additional order

Replace your towbar pin with this lock in one minute

The installation of the towbar lock requires no tools or adjustment. First, insert your ball mount, bike rack, or accessory into the receiver, align the side holes, then engage the shaft in place of the original pin. Turn the key to lock, remove it, and close the cover. Then check by pulling firmly on the accessory: it should no longer be able to come out. Check before purchase that your receiver hole is indeed 5/8 of an inch, as some reinforced receivers use a larger size.

Is a towbar lock enough to protect a trailer?

It addresses part of the problem, not all of it. This lock prevents someone from removing the ball mount or accessory from the vehicle's receiver: that's exactly what you need when you leave a mounted bike rack during an overnight hotel stay. For a detached trailer parked on its own, however, an additional device is needed on the towbar head itself, or even a wheel clamp. The two protections are complementary and work on the same principle: making theft longer and more visible than it is worth.

Towbar security, a subject we take seriously

At Becquet Voiture, towbar and towing parts are selected based on verifiable criteria: stated diameter, material, mechanism protection, number of keys included. This is what distinguishes a real towbar pin lock from a decorative accessory. Have a question about your receiver's size? Our French-speaking team will answer you before purchase.

Lock your ball mount this weekend and stop taking your bike rack off every time you stop.

Fitting steps

  1. Prepare the fitting

Check your vehicle's towing capacity on the registration document. Remove the bumper or the cover if necessary. Check the package contents: 1 hitch lock and 2 keys.

  2. Mark and drill

Hold the tow hitch in place, mark the holes, then drill first with a small bit before the final diameter.

  3. Protect and fix

Deburr, apply an anti-rust product to the edges of the holes, then fix the tow hitch with the hardware and seals.

  4. Tighten and check

Tighten all the hardware to the specified torque. Check the trailer lights.

  • Check what is behind the panel before drilling (wiring, reinforcements).
  • Have the tow hitch fitted by a professional: it is a safety part.
